Upper Secondary and JC Math Tuition provided by former NIE-Trained teacher, Ms Carmen Li.
Ms Li graduated with First Class Honours in Applied Mathematics and Master of Science in NUS in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Her excellent results saw her being placed on Dean’s List for all semesters in her undergraduate course and winning prestigious book prizes such as the Sugar Industry Book Prize in 2002 for being the top student in Science Faculty, the Tan Teck Chwee Book Prize in 2004 for being the top Applied Mathematics student in her cohort and the Lijen Industrial Development Medal for the best Honours year thesis in her cohort. She was a recipient the President’s Graduate Fellowship during her graduate studies.
After graduating from the National Institute of Education in 2008, she taught Integrated Mathematics to Secondary One to Four students in a prestigious Girls’ School in Singapore for two years, before moving on to another reputable school, where she taught H2 and H3 Mathematics to JC students from 2010 to 2021.
Throughout her years of teaching, she took up many important coordinator roles in the school’s Science and Math Talent Programme, Leadership Development Unit, and Mathematics Department. She was the Chairperson of various important school events, where she had to lead groups of teachers and students through months of preparation and planning to ensure their smooth execution. As the Education Consultant of Faculty, a student body group comprising of over 800 students, she was in charge of the students day-to-day discipline and well-being, as well as overseeing the Faculty Committee (which comprised of Civics Representatives from each class) to plan and execute meaningful and fun activities to bond the students in the Faculty.
Her contributions towards students’ learning and well-being, as well as her caring and nurturing nature, saw her being awarded the Outstanding Educator Award in 2017, as well as being nominated “Most Caring Teacher” by her students for almost every year from 2010 to 2021. Her strong foundation and interest in Mathematics, coupled with her clear explanation and engaging lessons, contributed to the school’s high distinction rate of 3 in 4 students attaining Distinction during the GCE A level H2 Mathematics exam.
Ms Li is now a full-time tutor who gives tuition to Upper Secondary and Junior College students in Mathematics.
